Jim Paglia comes to NFCA’s Board with over twenty years of experience
in the field of worldwide advertising, public relations and communications. In 1995 he started his own
firm Ins & Outs, Inc. which specializes in brand consultancy and marketing strategy. In addition to his
professional career, Jim has spent a considerable part of his life in not-for-profit and social
responsibility volunteer positions. To attest to his success in all of these varied endeavors Jim Paglia
has received multiple awards including four from the March of Dimes alone, the most recent being for
Lifetime Achievement. In addition he was named a Chicago Original by Chicago Magazine and received a
special recognition award from the Illinois Soccer Hall of Fame.

Eric Fig is a partner of Freidkin, Matrone & Horn P.A., a full service CPA firm. He has over 25 years
of experience in the accounting profession, and is responsible for business and personal tax compliance,
and planning for privately held companies. In addition, he has a broad band of knowledge
concerning the taxation of corporations, partnerships, individuals, trusts and estates. He is a
Board member and Treasurer of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, and in his native South
Africa he served, for many years, on the Board of Directors of the United Cerebral Palsy Association.

Jon Shanfield has spent over 15 years working in financial management, including the past 12 years in the
field of banking and finance. Jon has also previously experienced being a caregiver for his wife, who is
fortunate to now be in good health. Having gone through this experience has given him a special
appreciation for the importance of the work being done by NFCA. Jon serves as president of a members-only
athletic club which requires him to actively address member and board concerns regarding daily operations
and long-term projects on behalf of the club.

Eric Berger is the Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Communications for DaVita, a leading national kidney care provider and he is responsible for the federal and state legislative affairs of the company as well as related communications and public outreach initiatives. Prior to joining DaVita, Mr. Berger served as the Vice President of Government Relations and Public Policy for US Oncology. He has also worked with the Commerce Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives where he was responsible for health policy legislation, including Medicare, Medicaid, FDA, NIH, and health insurance reform. Mr. Berger resides in Magnolia, Texas with his wife and three children.

Based on his personal experiences, Hal Chapel helped create the Lotsa Helping Hands caregiving coordination service used and co-branded by dozens of the leading national health organizations. He has been a technology visionary throughout his career, having served as founding CEO for four companies, several representing a major paradigm shift in information technology. Prior to Lotsa Helping Hands, Mr. Chapel founded Xevo Corp., the recognized leader in providing the enabling technology used by global telecommunications and application service providers (ASPs) to deliver remotely hosted application services over the internet. He was also the founding CEO of Vanguard Business Solutions, Inc. before it was acquired by Lotus Development Corp. in 1993. Mr. Chapel has authored a book on database technology and written many articles in leading industry journals.

For the past 20 years, Andrea Cohen has been a leader in elder care business development, transforming
the way private-pay services are delivered through a series of successful ventures. As HouseWorks CEO,
she has also created innovative partnerships for providing private-pay services to residents of long-term
care facilities, senior housing, and naturally occurring retirement communities such as Beacon Hill
Village — a virtual retirement community in downtown Boston. In recognition of her elder care expertise
and vision, Ms. Cohen was recently selected as an At-Large delegate to the 2005 White House Conference on
Aging (WHCoA). A passionate advocate for family caregivers, Ms. Cohen co-founded the Family Caregiver
Coalition of New England and organized the Boston Family Caregiver Town Hall Meeting, a PBS forum that
was taped during the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

Linda Jones has been in the health care field for more than thirty years. She is an RN having worked in
oncology, hospice and for the past 15 years in the home healthcare field. She is the owner of Health Care
Partners, Inc., a Medicare certified home healthcare agency, and she is the founder of the Hope and
Healing Foundation. She serves on the Board, and is past president of the Chronic Illness Coalition, a
Michigan based non-profit in support of those who live with chronic illness every day.
SUZANNE MINTZ, Director

Suzanne Mintz is the co-founder of NFCA and has been its paid Chief Executive since January 1997. Ms.
Mintz is a graduate of the 1996 class of Leadership Washington. She serves on the board of governors of
the National Patient Safety Foundation, and numerous advisory committees related to family caregiving,
patient safety, and healthcare reform. She is recognized as a leading spokesperson for family caregivers
nationwide, as demonstrated by her appearances before congress and numerous mentions in the media. Ms.
Mintz is a caregiver for her husband who has multiple sclerosis. Her latest book, Love, Honor, & Value —
A Family Caregiver Speaks Out About the Choices and Challenges of Caregiving was published in 2002.

Cindy Fowler is NFCA's co-founder and a former caregiver for her mother who had Parkinson's disease. She is an award-winning graphic designer, and a principal of her own graphic communications firm, Graves Fowler Creative. She is a former vice president and Board member of the Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington. A former Board member, Ms. Fowler provides NFCA with in kind graphic design services for all of its publications.
